The Department of Special Collections houses a small collection of North Vietnamese wartime propaganda posters, which were produced around 1972 by various artists. They are presented here for educational use only. According to Joel Montague and Nora Taylor, in the April 1997 issue of Vietnam magazine, "While much is known about the successes and failures of American psychological warfare and propaganda, less is known about the efforts of the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong to inspire their public to fight and sacrifice in the war against the South and its American backers." (p.38) Posters such as these offer a glimpse into such efforts. Additional resources on the use of art in war are available for study in our Imaginative Representations of the Vietnam War Collection.
